About Us

WE CHANGED OUR CLUB’S NAME...

The ‘Comrades’ from March 2022 became known as the ‘Coulsdon Club’, and we want to tell you Who and What we are, but more importantly, Where we are!

If you are new to Coulsdon or already live here and do not know about us, then we are looking for you! The Coulsdon Club is the ‘newest social venue’ on the block but one of the oldest social venues in the area. The History of the club comes from the legacy that is (and will always be) the Comrades of the Great War; one of the original four ex-service associations that were originally formed in 1917. A non-political association to represent the rights of ex-service men and women who had served or had been discharged from service during World War I. The Coulsdon branch was set up in 1919 when local survivors of the Great War formed the club after returning to the area to continue in ‘Civvy Street’ the camaraderie that they had found in the services. The Comrades of The Great War remained independent of the other three who amalgamated in May 1921 to form The Royal British Legion.

The club has always had a wonderful history of providing great entertainment to enjoy such as ‘Live’ music every Saturday night, plus our extremely popular Comedy, Open Mic, Bingo, Karaoke and Quiz nights. The club is also the home to the UK's Blues Federation and multi award winning ‘Tuesday Night Music Club’ that is regularly sold out…typically on a Tuesday!

If you have a special interest and you cannot find it here with our various clubs such as film, reading and poker, why not come along and start a group for yourself and others who share your passion to enjoy.

The club also has a fabulous snooker heritage. We invite anyone with a passion for snooker to play on one of our (4) quality match tables or join one of our teams. Golf, Darts, Yoga, Art anyone? With everything going on inside the building, you may want to take a well-deserved breather, so why not step out into our neat garden space. We are the only social club in the area with its own private garden!

Please feel free to pop in and have a mid-morning tea or coffee to accompany your relaxing read, or have a chat with other locals at your leisure – Whichever you prefer!, or come and visit a little later for the early evening sun with friends and a relaxed catch up.

We gave our garden its own identity in 2022. From March that year it became known and will be known as the ‘Goodenough Garden’, Admiral Sir William Edmund Goodenough K.C.B C.B M.V.O opened the current building on the 23rd of September 1933 to commemorate the re-building of the Coulsdon Comrades Club in Remembrance of those who fell in the Great War. Our garden will be a focus for relaxation by having different events on throughout the year that we hope will be of interest to a large number of people. You can also watch all the major sporting events with us either inside or, weather permitting, out. (a new all-weather screen is planned for summer 2025).

Unlike other venues that are known for having one focus, we believe that we can be much more by offering a greater variety.

Our club is open to non-members, and we would be delighted for you to visit and try us out before committing.

Membership is open to ALL with application forms available to download or pick-up at the club.

Goodenough Garden

Our garden is a focus for relaxation.

You may wonder why we named our garden 'Goodenough Garden' - well, Admiral Sir William Edmund Goodenough K.C.B C.B M.V.O opened the current building on the 23rd of September 1933 to commemorate the re-building of the Coulsdon Comrades Club in Remembrance of those who fell in the Great War. In his honour, our garden has been given it's own identity and is known as the Goodenough Garden.
